ATWOnline.com, the leading source for daily airline industry news and information, launched in 1997. Here is a look back:
Bombardier Aerospace demonstrated that turboprops will be part of the regional airline industry well into the next century with the delivery of the 500th Dash 8 to Horizon Airlines and the unveiling of its newest family member, the 70-seat Dash 8 Q400. At a news conference prior to the ceremony, SAS Commuter finalized a $350 million agreement to acquire 15 Dash 8 Q400s, and optioned 17 more. The order signals a growing European market for the Dash 8-400, an aircraft some thought would find a limited presence only in the Asia/Pacific region. First flight of the Dash 8-400 was last month. Certification flight testing will take place at the Bombardier Flight Test Center in Wichita and certification to JAA standards is scheduled for the first quarter of 1999 (December 2007).
