Poll

China recently moved one step closer to achieving its "dream" of manufacturing "jumbo aircraft" by establishing Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China in Shanghai, and hopes to build 737/A320-size aircraft by 2020. How concerned should Boeing and Airbus be?

1) Not at all. China is decades away from being able to manufacture the array of aircraft types produced by Boeing and Airbus and, besides, will have considerable trouble convincing Western airlines that its aircraft are as safe and reliable.
2) Moderately. China is committed to achieving this "dream" and will be able to compete with next-generation models of single-aisle aircraft because its manufacturing costs will be much lower, but Boeing and Airbus will still dominate the wide-body sector
3) Extremely. Combining a lower cost-base with a willingness to incorporate avionics equipment and engines from top global suppliers, Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China will be able to move into the forefront of aircraft manufacturing within 10-20 years.
