Group seeks extension of Alternative Minimum Tax exemption
ATW's Airports Today, November, 2009, p.6
A coalition of US aviation and education officials is urging members of Congress to support extension of the Alternative Minimum Tax exemption for private activity bonds and allowing full refinancing of current debt. The coalition includes ACI-NA, American Assn. of Port Authorities and the Education Finance Council.
They have asked members of the Senate Finance Committee and the House Ways and Means Committee to consider expanding the AMT because they say it will promote job creation, make it easier to obtain critically needed financing for infrastructure projects and reduce the cost of college loans.
"It is essential that ACI-NA, AAPA and EFC work together on this important issue, as this collective support can emphasize the importance of extending this necessary provision," said ACI-NA President Greg Principato. "The AMT relief created jobs through construction and helped students finance their higher education and it is critical to ensure that this provision becomes permanent. As a coalition, we can help put the economy back on tracks and keep it moving forward."
