ACI-Europe announces new CO2 program
ATW's Airports Today, July, 2009, p.6
ACI-Europe launched an Airport Carbon Accreditation program that will assess and recognize airports' efforts to manage and reduce CO2 emissions within their control. The program, which is voluntary, will be overseen by an independent advisory board made up of representatives of the European Commission, European Civil Aviation Conference and Eurocontrol.
ACI-North America also declared its commitment to reduce emissions under airport control and to work with the US and Canadian governments to "incorporate the true environmental and economic costs of GHG [greenhouse gas emissions] into the price of energy through the development of appropriate economic measures." In addition, any revenues generated from economic measures should be invested so as to have the greatest impact on long-term emissions reductions in the aviation industry.
