After spending $1 million over the past year in an airline incentive program that offered a 75% reduction in landing fees at Myrtle Beach Airport, officials decided to extend it through mid-2010 in an effort to protect the current domestic air service program. The fee structure will continue for a nine-month period starting in September.
"Myrtle Beach has been very fortunate to gain new air service from two airlines this year. The airport, Chamber [of Commerce] and Golf Holiday, working as a team, made these new services possible," said Mike Mooney of The Boyd Group, an aviation consulting firm. "The. . .cost incentives put forth by the airport played a key role in recruiting the new air service."
Landing fees at the resort area facility will remain at $.50 per 1,000 lb., reduced from $1.97. The airport will continue to waive all landing fees and terminal rents for any scheduled nonstop roundtrip service between MYR and an international destination, including Canada, which currently does not provide any direct service to the airport.
