Lufthansa Cargo AG launched an "information offensive" to retain nighttime cargo flights at Frankfurt Airport after local officials said they were considering a ban against them.
"A ban on night flights would cut the export nation Germany off from the international flow of goods and lead to a relocation of production and logistics companies," said Willi Roerig, chairman of the Central Workers' Council of Lufthansa Cargo. "As a result, the role of Frankfurt as an international logistics hub, and meanwhile the seventh-largest freight airport in the world, would be seriously flawed."
The State of Hesse's Higher Administration Court in Kassel will conduct hearings on airport expansion plans as well as night flights. Lufthansa Cargo wants to gain legal assurances on the night flight issue as soon as possible, according to a statement issued by the company.
